I remember when Karl Lagerfield’s Russian inspired collection came out in 2009 because a classmate rushed in and literally threw the magazine at me in happiness. I was studying fashion design at Nanyang in Singapore but instead of joining my classmates in fawning over the originality and creativity of the designs I was immediately was fascinated by the historical elements incorporated in each piece.
I’ve taken the post I made from my old blog and reposted it on my new blog because I still find it fascinating. Even though it’s such an old collection it’s always been one of my favorites. It was the turning point in helping me to realize that I needed to go into historic costuming. After discussing the collection in a group setting my lecturer noted that if I could look at a new collection and only see the history I needed to change majors. So I did.
I’ve added all new facts and now that I know where to look; even better photos.
(I can’t for the life of me remember who is responsible for this photo montage. If you do know could you please send me a name and I’ll credit?! Ta!)
“russianity” (yes, from...word) very interesting
